About album.hk domain names 

Why would I need a domain name?

A domain name allows your friends or customers to find you at your unique root address on the Internet. Using a domain name you are making your album web site more accessible to your visitors. Besides, your album will get a more professional profile.


How much does it cost?

Free user - Free of charge. The free user can use an album name free of charge until other people are intend to be the premium user of the domain.

Premium user - Paid the annual premium fee US$5. The premium user can use an album name and keep the name after the annual premium fee is paid.

Third level album.hk domain names are free of charge for free user but provided under the condition you keep your contact information updated and without any body interest in being the premium user of the name. If somebody interested in the domain name, which you are the free user, we will inform you to upgrade to be the premium user of the domain name and pay the annual premium fee. If you do not register as the premium user in 72 hours, the name will be transfer to the new premium user.   


How long can I keep a domain name?

Indefinitely, while you paid the premium fee annually, do not violate our terms of service and while there is no other people want to be the premium user of your name if you are free user.


Is there a limit to the number of album.hk domain names one organization or person may register or a limitation as to where that company or person must be located in order to register a album.hk domain?

There is no limit. Any person or single organization located anywhere in the world may register any number of names as long as they follow our terms and conditions.



What is the difference between album.hk and a .com domain name?

The major difference between a album.hk domain and a .com domain is that album.hk is new and consequently most names are available. Whereas .com is associated with companies, album.hk can be used by as an album especially in Hong Kong. Both, album.hk and .com domain names have identical global access.


Can I delegate a album.hk domain like a .com domain?

No. At this moment, the album.hk name is just design for web forwarding. It is not possible for the user to configure it to use DNS service. We may expand the service if the need is there.


How long after registration application is submitted will it take for a name to become active on the Internet and how will you be notified?

When your registration is successfully processed, you will be notified immediately by email. It is important that the email address be a working address or your registration may fail. Your domain name will become active on the Internet immediately.


Is it possible to register myname.album or myname.hk?

Unfortunately not for "album", because it is not a top level domain. Top level domains are for example "com", "net", "info" and "biz". You can register a domain like myname.hk but you have to buy it at HKDNR.


Will you add other domain extensions such as myname.xxx.hk or myname.yyy.hk?

We like album.hk because it sounds good, it's quite short and easy to type, spell and to remember. If we find another domain with all these features (and not registered by someone else) it will be added to our service.


What characters can an album.hk domain name have?

Names may not begin or end with a dash, and upper case and lower case are treated as lower case only. Besides the - character, only alpha characters a-z are accepted. As few as 3 and as many as 20 characters are permitted.


The domain name I want is taken, what can I do?

You can try different variations of the requested name. For example, myname.album.hk, my-name.album.hk or any other variation of what you want. Remember, information to the left of the album.hk is not case sensitive so variations in capitalization will not work. MYname.album.hk won't work if myname.album.hk is already taken.


Once I register my album.hk domain name, how do I access my web site?

If your registration was successful you can access your web site by typing www.yourname.album.hk.


I don't receive the mail with the activation code. What should I do?

Try to sign up again. If the process fails again, sign up from another e-mail address. Make sure the messages are not blocked by a spam filter.

I lost the password, what can I do?

Click on 'Member Login' and when your browser asks for password click cancel. Then, enter your e-mail address or your domain and the system will send you a mail with the password.


What can I do if I have no access to my email?

Send us all information about your account such as your name, e-mail address, domain name, registration date (approx.). We will attempt to reach you at the primary address.
Recovering access to your account may take some time, because it is a manual process and we will do it only if we have free time. Support will reply other requests with higher priority.


What happens if I can't access any e-mail address nor update my website's content?

No. We have not provide this service at this moment. We may consider to offer this if there is the needs.


Do you offer space to upload pages and images (hosting)?

No, we don't provide hosting service so uploads are not possible in general.


Do you provide FTP access?

No, we don't provide hosting service so uploads are not possible in general.

　

How much web space do you provide?

We don't provide free hosting service. This means that you can not upload your own created HTML files.


How do I get myname.album.hk redirected to my [free] web host?

1) Click on 'Member Login'
2) Change URL to your web host
3) click on 'Go'


How do I use subdomains?

You can use the subdomain as you like. However, all the subdomains will be forward to their 3rd level domain.
　

If I have no photo album, how can I have my photo album?

There are many free photo album in the Internet, such as Yahoo photo album. After you have set up the photo album, you can use our service to have easy-to-remember album name.

Will you delete an offending domain name?

Yes.


What is the album.hk domain policy concerning trademarks and registration of names in the album.hk third level domain?

We will accept any name for registration and activation, and will not deactivate any name for any reason excepting unlawful use or violation of our terms & conditions. The album.hk domain registry is not bound to maintain a name registration in active status if this agreement is violated. Registrants may also wish to consider putting any trademark disputes before the World Intellectual Property Organization's domain name challenge panel for resolution. We can only help you to make contact with the registered keeper of the domain and advise them of your concerns. Each registrant in the album.hk domain can modify, transfer and delete their domain name using the on-line setup to minimize infringement.


Where does the album.hk Domain name come from? Is it an official name, and if so, why isn't HKDNR  managing it?

The .hk top level domain is an official domain name which is administered by HKDNR. album.hk is the organization (to which album.hk refers) that manages all sub- domains of album.hk.
If you want to register a .com you should look at the Network Solutions web site and if you want to register a .hk second level domain you should look at the HKDNR web site.
album.hk is the only organization that registers album.hk names.


How is this service financed?

album.hk gets revenues from the premium fee.


I wrote a mail to support but I got no reply. What's wrong?

Support response time is very variable. You can get a response within 5 minutes or within one week depending on the load of work. When the staff is focused on development or maintenance it may take longer. Don't hesitate to send your mail again if you don't get a timely response and let us know if you managed to solve the inconvenience by yourself.
